Charles Barton Jr. (2011) Signed LOI
Signed LOI – 04/13/11
Charles Barton Jr. – 6’3″, Lulea (?), Sweden (Sanda U20, Huskvarna, Jonkopings Lan)
Coach Barton has provided a great bio and analysis. So let’s go with that, shall we.
Challe (as his father refers to him) took over the PG duties at Sanda two years ago, and his role was to just be a manager of the game and allow the more advanced players to shine. He managed so well that he managed the team to their best season ever, going to the National Final Four (U20). At 16 he was the youngest starter at the Final Four that year.
If you were searching for tape, and you found the Sanda videos in which young Mr. Barton deferred to what appeared to be more confident players, it was during this year that tape was created.
Last season Challe took over the team and asserted himself as the leader of the team. Sanda again had their best season ever, made the National Final Four (U20) and lost in the final. He also made the All-Star team.
He was at that time a pass-first PG with a solid game on either end of the floor, but he lacked the intangibles which would make him an elite prospect. It was at that time, his father says, that Challe’s career took a turn for the better. He expressed an interest in attending college in the US, so he went to Leonard Hamilton’s FSU elite camp Stateside in order to be evaluated/seen/taught. He did all three, and he returned to Europe a changed young man. At the camp, his shot was corrected, and he was evaluated as a high major prospect.
His jumper (read: mid-range extended) suddenly became a weapon, and he became a proficient scorer while also controlling the pace of the game no matter the speed. He already had the trey, and he could find his way to the lane with a variety of moves. But he suddenly started to finish those moves with crisp passes or strong drives.
He was hot and cold during the Euro Championships last summer, but he came out of the event hot. Several high majors were on his trail at that point. The tape below is just the beginning of Challe turning his “upside” on.
Fast forward to this season. Challe is leading his team through yet another great season while also leading the team in points and being tops (or very close) in the league in assists. As a result, he has made the All-Star team every month of the season. More to come on this season.
Charles Barton says his son’s greatest strengths are his high hoops IQ, his passing and his shot. Thank you to Coach Barton for the above bio and analysis.
The video below shows some of the difference in Challe’s game from summer to winter. His shot is money, and it gives him the confidence to break down defenders with a flair. Notice how his release is higher and much more clean with a lot of nice arc and spin. The kid took his game to the next level, and he’s bringing it to Corvallis next.

I will send you the numbers to his Sanda coach. Some of the information is not really correct. His pull up jumpshot is his BEST SHOT. He doesn’t really shot floaters that much. His team at Sanda does play in the under 20′s but aside from his first season the team is actually built around him. Perhapes ypou should give me a call I can give you a better picture of this player.
I look forward to it. I have a hard time trusting news of European players’ abilities because the opinions are all over the map. It seems that the person telling the tale can color the analysis according to the game with which they are more familiar. The highlight tape shows a much different game than was reported by Christophe of European Prospects. My NBA scout friend is a Spaniard who talks incessantly about two someones named Mirotic and Garino. Other than that, he only drools over what he calls the B&B players–the Baltics and the Balkans.
Please tell us all you can about Charles. We look forward to meeting him and cheering for him in the years to come.

I have to say that my short scouting report mentioned in this article was only based on 1 game. And the description of the player for that game is in my eyes adequate. Now, that he has a totally different game, I am happy to hear about so that I know the player better now. The video underlines this as well.
I was thinking that analysis was based solely on the Euro U18 tourney. After all, it was a recap of individual players at the event. Yes?
The highlights linked above show a drastically different player than his stats for that one event, let alone one game.
I would say that many different eyes have seen many different points of Charles’ career, and we have yet to connect all those dots.
The analysis was based on the EuroU18 tournament. However, in that tournament, I saw only one game of Sweden but e.g. 3 games of Lithuania which explains why the scouting report on Charles Jr. is incomplete.
