Jahii Carson

Verbal Commitment to ASU (8/21/10)

Jahii Karenja Carson – 5′11″, 165, PG, Mesa, Az (Mesa)

This kid is special.  I could spend four pages telling you how his fundamental excellence lends to his being better than excellent.  But why?  He will poke, prod and penetrate a defense.  If he’s bored, he’ll just shoot over it.

He’s an elite ball handler and passer.  His range is impossible.  His frosh numbers (read: performance) were good enough for a senior to get a D-I nod to a good hoops school.

Carson averaged 23.9 ppg in 2009-10 while leading the Jackrabbits to a 24-4 record, a Fiesta Region Championship, and a #1 seed in the AIA 5A Div. I state tourney which starts on Feb. 25th.

Buker says he thinks he’s out of the Beavs league with UNC a callin’. Boy it would be nice to land a kid who was offered by UNC!

The interest from UNC is about a month old at this point. Zonies are convinced he’s a lock for in-state… except when he says stuff like UCLA is his leader. The consensus is that he will not go east of the Rockies, and the real players in his recruitment are OSU and UA with a little dash of UCLA and ASU mixed in.

Since he will not decide until the late signing period, having teams like UNC on his list might come into play if his West Coast recruitment goes south. Too many numb-skulls are parsing every word from every recruit, and Carson can be maddening with that method. UA fans who once thought he was a lock and were popping corks are now cursing his existence. It’s more fun to watch than the kids themselves.

Right now we’re going head to head with the likes of tOSU and Florida for kids. Let’s see how many more Roberto Nelsons and Sam Thompsons are in our future before we care how we do against UNC in recruiting.
