Joey De La Rosa
Committed to FIU – 1/14/11
Joey De La Rosa – 6’11″, 240, C, Bronx, NY (Montverde Academy, Montverde, Fla)
De La Rosa will probably slide under the radar with the big names that are coming out in 2011. Originally from the Bronx, he played on the same AAU team as 2010 Beaver commit Devon Collier–New Heights. And he was one of many who left storied St. Raymond for another love.
He played the 2009-10 season at IMPACT Academy in Las Vegas. His offense is still raw, but it’s quickly improving. His game favors the left block and a good right-handed hook. He has good footwork, good leverage and great hustle and strength inside, all of which make up for any other weaknesses in his game. He easily plays above the rim on defense, so you can imagine what a PG thinks when he drives the lane only to find this kid in his face.
Forget PG’s… other bigs are having their problems with him during the summer circuit. Expect him to get more and more attention as the summer wears on.
He’ll be playing his senior year at Montverde Prep Academy in Florida.

did he sign or verbal
Just a verbal. He might stay committed, or he may be poached sometime in the future.
hes a very good foward he has great foot work and he can also handle the ball
I agree with both of these points. I think he’s a little too raw for some programs to take a chance on him, or he plays as an actual post player instead of trying to jack up treys and face up all the time. But that’s what I like about him. He’s strong with good size and fundamentals. If he focuses and conditions well, his average game will be better than most bigs these days.
this kid has a younger brother freshman attends christ the king high school and is already 6″10 his name is adonis delarosa he is also a great player and is one of the best players in the country
I knew about Adonis last year, but he was 6’8″ at the time. Word on the street is that he will be a dandy.
